Community grants boost recognises member milestone

Community Grant applications

We’re giving community organisations 50,000 more reasons to apply for our bi-annual Community Grants Program.

In recognition of our recent milestone of reaching 50,000 memberships, we have boosted funding for first round applications in 2020 by $50,000.

“We currently are the fund of choice for almost 107,000 people covered by 50,000 memberships, so we really want to show our support for the communities that support us,” said Westfund CEO Mark Genovese.

“By increasing the funding available in Round One of the Community Grants Program, we can help a wider range of community groups and organisations who are working tirelessly to support their communities in times of need.

“Fires, floods, pandemic and now economic recession – it certainly has been a challenging time for the communities we serve. If we can help, even if it’s in a small way, we will be there,” he said.

This funding boost will mean 16 additional grants or defibrillators as well as one major grant of $10,000 — which the public will help choose.

“We’re inviting our entire community to vote on the shortlisted candidates. Voting will be live on our website from 31 August,” said Mr Genovese.

The benefits of the Program have already been felt across NSW and Queensland regional areas with dozens of worthy community organisations already recognised by receipt of either a grant or a defibrillator.

Each of these organisations were able to show that their activities improved and enhanced the local community via the delivery of a service or program catered to community need.

The Westfund Community Grants Program offers organisations the chance to apply for a grant of up to $2500. It also includes Westfund’s Here for Hearts program, which provides access to defibrillators for eligible organisations.

The program is built on a foundation of four pillars: Family, Healthy, Fit for Life and Community.

Applications for Round One, 2020 of the Westfund Community Grants Program closed on August 14 2020.
